About US Whisk(e)y
American Whiskey, or Whisky depending on the product, is a type of distilled spirit that is, as the name suggests, produced in the United States. Made from a fermented mash of grains, it is distilled and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years.
Differing from Scotch and Irish Whiskey, US Whiskey uses a variety of alternative grain bases, including corn (for bourbon) and rye (for Rye Whiskey). There are also US Whiskys that buck the tradition of classic American Whiskey, with Balcones as a front runner in the US 'Whisky' scene (notice the missing 'e').
